    Brother DSmobile 600 rocks!
I wanted a simple, easy to use scanner that fed itself and made good quality scans. This is perfect. It’s not super fast, and it isnt always perfectly strait, but it allows me to scan to either a PDF or picture depending on what I need. I have cleaned off my desk of paper, and I am now using it at the office organizing and keeping up with everything there! I love it and now everyone is borrowing it from me. I think I will get them one for Christmas this year. It’s inexpensive but does a really good job. Very portable, plug it into the USB port and scan! I returned the Neat scanner. It filed into their files and format and to move them out and merge with files I had received etc was to overcomplicated. this is much more simple if you know how to create your own filing system.

    REVIEW UPDATED 11-2-2013
It’s portable and works well in that respect. It is also USB powered and works off your laptop battery, so you will not need batteries or to plug it in when you are traveling, which is a nice plus. But two major drawbacks:1. Won’t scan to PDF. Of course you can scan, then open the image, then save to PDF if you have Acrobat, but it’s a lot of extra steps and hassle when you are a busy professional.2. Also, it scans a multi-page document as a bunch of separate images. So, there are my comments. I carry this one with me when I travel, but try to avoid using it unless absolutely necessary for contract signing or something similar.EDIT: So, I am modifying my review based on the fact that I figured how to scan to PDF. It’s an option (not the default) and you can do it if you install the additional software CD that comes with the scanner. It will also scan a multi-page document, but you have to scan the first page, and then a little dialogue box comes up and you can choose to scan an additional page. So that is a PRO. However, that being said, for some reason, the PDF file sizes are HUGE, (for example, I scanned an 8 page contract, file size was so large that I couldn’t attach the file to Yahoo email (it was well over 20 MB), it kept prompting me to use Dropbox), I solved the problem by reprinting the file to PDF and making it smaller using advanced options in Adobe. Obviously that is not an option if you don’t have a full version of Adobe Acrobat on your computer. So, yes, you can print to PDF, and yes, you can scan multi page, but there are issues. In my opinion, it’s a toss-up– it’s still a great option for a bare-bones, USB-powered scanner that you can throw in a laptop bag and take with you. But for use in an office or something like that, it’s just not convenient at all.

    Good Product For Light Use
For a low cost scanner this is a good buy. I have been using the DSmoble600 for several years. I travel a lot and take it on the road with me, and like it well enough to buy a second one to leave at home. The size is perfect and it is light weight. It produces a good enough quality image for most purposes at 300dpi which I find to be a good blend of quality & speed. You can go up to 600dpi and select greyscale or color, but it will get slower. If you do a lot of scanning or need very high quality, you may want something faster, but for me it suits my puropse. CONS: You need to be diligent about feeding the paper if you want the image to look good, and the placement of the USB outlet is on the back behing the button and the cable can be in the way of your media. A better place would have been on the side, or better yet wireless.

Pretty decent… Tech Support is good
(Note: See the last line in “CONS”.)Initially, the DSmobile performed well, but it quickly developed a line through all of the scans. Tech Support was able to get things straightened out, so, over all, not a bad buy.PROS:* Accuracy is fairly good.* Installation was easy, with no real snags or hang-ups.* The size is FANTASTIC, and could hardly be better, if not for the uncleanable streak running through every single copy.* Operation is easy; several mouse clicks, and you’re on your way.CONS:* No OCR, but you can use the OCR in Adobe Acrobat.* Cleaning works, but you want to dig in to the menu system and not give up looking (or , like me, call tech support).* Easy enough to use; it would be great if pressing the button on the device actually initiated a scan with no subsequent menu picks.* Some issues aligning prints.* SOON ENDED UP WITH A LINE THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE SCAN THAN CLEANING COULD TEMPORARILY LESSEN, BUT NEVER REMOVE. ENDED UP EVENTUALLY BUYING A NEW SCANNER AND RELEGATING THIS ONE FOR TRAVELLING-ONLY AND EMERGENCY USE.

I replaced a portable manual scanner with this self feed one… my scans are much better (no more streched scans). Software is intuitive and flexible to adapt for odd sized originals. Color and reproduction are true.

Good scanner good but not so much for pictures.. There are lines through the pictures after they are scanned. Works great other than that!
