A perfect choice for use with our large family size storm shelter!
The GEARit Video Doorbell Camera with Chime – 2K QHD Video – 6 Months Rechargeable Battery – IP64 Weather-Proof, Motion Detection, 2 Way Audio Wireless for Home was the perfect choice for use with our large family sized storm shelter. This doorbell and chime took virtually nothing to install and was relatively easy to set up using the downloadable app. It works with our mobile phones which always go into the shelter with us. This doorbell and chime let us know when someone arrives after the door is closed, who it is and what conditions exist outside the shelter. These are essential functions for our safety. Our shelter is large enough for 12 adults and when needed there is lag time for our family members to arrive to join us in the shelter. Once inside, we’re blind to conditions outside the shelter. This lets us know if a tornado is on-going or if an object is blocking the doorway. The most difficult thing is ensuring the doorbell and chime has sufficient power. This is easy by putting it on our quarterly shelter checklist. The doorbell and chime power will last well beyond a 3-month period. I’m extremely satisfied with the quality, ease of use and performance of the GEARit Video Doorbell and Chime and consider it an outstanding value!

Decent doorbell camera if you’re not wanting to spend a lot
This thing is kind of flimsy. If someone walks up and hits it, it’s not going to withstand the force. It’ll be done. It was easy enough to setup though and it does seem to have a good battery life.

Super nice and clear HD picture quality!
This is a nice video doorbell camera. It is easy to install and setup with the included instructions. It is fairly sturdy and seems like it would last for several years. You need to charge the unit every so often. I have had mine for a several months and one charge will last about a month and a half. The app for the camera is called AuraHome Control. It works well for security and the quality of the picture is very clear. The app also sends a notification and takes an image if movement is picked up. I do not use it very often to answer the door, as the sound is a bit delayed. Overall, for the price it works!

Great doorbell camera for the price
This is packaged well for the price but nothing too special. It comes with a tiny and very cheap screwdriver to mount it and I strongly suggest you throw that away and use your own if you have one that’ll work. Side note on that… if you have hardi board siding, consider using the anchors, different screws or the sticky pad because those screws won’t hold up. I ended up with the adhesive pad because I naively thought I could get the screws to feed into the siding but ended up bending them.Mounting aside which is pretty easy, 2 screws or an adhesive pad and a set screw… you are left with setting up the device. This was not as simple and intuitive as I’d like or maybe I was just being dumb. You scan a QR code to download the app (aurahomeconnect). From there you’ll setup your WiFi credentials and click the add button to add a new device. I then went to cameras and found the smart doorbell camera listed and installed that. I think it prompted again for WiFi credentials at that point, had me reset the camera (button on the back) and click thru the prompts. You’ll then get a QR code that comes up in the app and you’ll read it with the camera and then it’ll hopefully make a noise. Once completed with that, the app does a search for the camera and this is when I got a little confused because it didn’t work the first time and it wasn’t really clear what it wanted. It said to turn on the camera, but your camera most likely was already on because you just scanned the QR code, or should have at least. Anyhow, ended up just letting it go and it eventually found it, synced it up with the app and it’s all good. With it installed in the app, the camera itself has pretty good video quality. It’s actually great, in my opinion, for the price. The app, I’m not in love with. It’s no ring or anything like that. On the flip side, there’s no additional fees to pay. You also have the ability to install a memory card I believe- but I didn’t have one on hand so maybe I’ll do that later. It has 2 way talk with it as well. Sound quality is pretty trash but it’s good enough to get the job done. The doorbell chime though is loud enough but not obnoxiously loud either. Would be cool if you could change the chime maybe but I didn’t see a way to do so.All said, this is a lot cheaper than a lot of alternatives out there. It’s a pretty nice looking unit. It’s got great video quality. The app really isn’t bad, but it’s a bit universal for a lot of different devices so I’ve got mixed feelings on it… loud chime, 2 way voice communication is decent enough to use. I think for what you pay here, you get a great product. I have yet to confirm battery life but I do think if you are viewing the video frequently that you should not expect to see the advertised battery life. I’ve dropped about 4% in one day just playing around with it.

Major App and Privacy Concerns
I was unable to download the app from the Google Play Store—it simply said “Download Failed.” I even tried downloading it from my laptop and sending it to my phone, but that also failed. Since I couldn’t install the app, I cannot review this product from the app functionality standpoint.Additionally, the app has only 100 downloads and zero reviews, which is very suspicious. Looking at the permissions, it requests 49 different access permissions, essentially asking for everything on my phone, including all sensors. This level of access is excessive and unnecessary. Had I been able to install the app, I would have had to disable most of the permissions, keeping only Wi-Fi, camera, microphone, and Bluetooth enabled.Since the app was unusable, my only option was to sync the doorbell with the included chime, which plugs into a wall outlet. This worked, and it might end up being the only functional part of this product.I’ve tested multiple video doorbells, and they are often riddled with privacy issues, phone performance problems, and the lack of a local-only option to function over LAN without internet dependency. At this point, the best solution may be a Raspberry Pi-based setup for privacy-conscious users.Final Verdict: This product was a complete flop, and I cannot recommend it at all.
