Google’s Gemini intelligence brings more meaningful alerts — the camera can distinguish between people, animals, and vehicles, so I’m not flooded with irrelevant motion notifications. The animated previews in the app are a very clever touch, helping you quickly see what triggered an alert.Setup was a breeze. The Google Home app walked me through the whole process step by step. Great Video Quality, but a Major Feature Got Nerfed
I upgraded to the Nest 2K Indoor Camera and was impressed with the improved video quality as it is sharper than my nest IQ and Nest 1st Gen indoor camera. Faces and details come through clearly, at a greater distance. The higher resolution captures more light which provides crips detail. especially in good lighting.The new Gemini alerts are a nice touch. They’re smart and accurate, helping me stay on top of important activity without getting flooded with false notifications. It will say things like person with 2 dogs walked by or Package was delivered.But there’ are some big downgrades. Nest’s high-speed video scrubbing, which used to be one of its best features, is now practically useless. The footage becomes so grainy when you scroll that you can’t spot cars, people, or anything meaningful unless the system has already flagged it as an event. If you’re trying to find something manually, good luck, it’s nearly impossible.Today for example the mailman came by, and it was not flagged as an event, so it was impossible to see him come by while scrubbing on this new 2K camera. Meanwhile, my old Nest IQ camera setup right beside this camera easily allowed me to scroll the video feed and see he clearly came by and stopped at my mailbox.Updated 10/16/25Overall, it’s a solid camera with better resolution and smarter alerts. The ability to ask questions like if the mailman came is really an amazing feature. It seems to have been spot on since I expanded my zone sizes. I really like the upgrade this camera is compared to my Nest Iq camera.

I’ve been using these for years! Never failed me. I needed another and hoped I could hook it up. It was so easy, i had it connected in minutes and was watching my front door instantly from anywhere. 9 years of using Nest and I’ll choose it again.
