because it is an awesome unit. It was no different to install than …
I purchased this to replace my single stage cooling thermostat that was hooked up to my Trane dual stage cooler. (Don’t know why the HVAC company did this.) This unit is attached to my Trane XL19i Cooler and my matched heater. I am not a “pro” installer and there are warnings all over the box that if this unit is not installed by a “pro” it voids the warranty. Don’t let this stop you from purchasing this unit, because it is an awesome unit.It was no different to install than any other thermostat other than it requires a “C” common wire. This unit requires this because it does not have batteries. I installed the unit using 7 wires. I have a 2 stage heat and 2 stage cool. (4 wires) A fan wire (1 wire) and the positive and negative-common wire (2 wires). Took me about 20 minutes, but I also traced all the wires to make sure they were hooked up correctly to my outside AC and heater. They were not, as my 2 stage system was installed and jumper wired as a 1 stage system. You probably will not have this problem.During the initial setup you choose all of your options and it askes a lot of questions about your system and how you want it setup, including if you would like to connect to wifi or external temperature sensors. It has a program assist that will set up specific programming times based on questions that you answer and works really well. I would normally be the type of person who wanted to program it myself, but Honeywells’ program assist was easy and quick to use. When connected to WIFI you can go only to Honeywells site and setup or change any settings from there. I also downloaded the application for my smart phone and can control the temperature from anywhere and adjust the programming times if I need. This is a great feature. One other feature I really like, in the settings menu you can select “system status” and it will tell you exactly what is going on. I know if I am running 1st or 2nd stage heating or cooling, if the fan is on auto, or recirculating (on 30% of the time randomly when not heating/cooling) etc. etc. Finally the display not only shows you the temperature setting, and current indoor temperature and humidity, but if you are connected to wifi it automatically shows the outside temperature and humidity.I give this product 5 stars only because I can’t give it 6!

    Updated mountng
Works well. Easy install. Newer device so mounting plate needs to be replaced as well but very simple to do. All screw holes line up the same. I like that the contact points are no longer pins that can be bent . will buy again

Awesome thermostat that comes with complexity
Awesome thermostat that will probably do anything that any thermostat can do, but….. this comprehensive functionality comes with complexity. It can control hvac system humidifiers, dehumidifiers, electric filters, remote temperature sensors, “oscillation over-thrusters” :), etc. This unit holds the temperature in my house much more reliably than prior 10 year old less sophisticated units.I have 3 heatpumps and bought 2 of these to replace thermostats I already had in my house after a professional installed one during a full system replacement in my house (I wanted all 3 to match). I have installed other Honeywell wifi thermostats that are sold for typical homeowner installations and found things very simple with them. With this unit, you will be challenged with dozens of system questions/selections on setting menus – many of these I had to research to know how to select the right choice (for example I had to determine compressor stages and if I wanted the o/b reversing valve set to heat/cool….. what’s an o/b valve??). The install booklet included in the box is about 10 pages. I downloaded the pdf of the install manual – it is almost 100 pages (excluding secondary languages) to help ensure I got all selections correct. All is up/running perfectly without problems, but this was far from plug&play. To be completely fair, this unit is sold as a professional installation unit and the description says so, therefore I should have understood this going into the project – if you arent an hvac tech, just go into your project knowing that you may have to do some google research along the way during install.

Very versatile, works well, limited warranty
I purchased two of these units, for the same house. I’ve installed Honeywell wifi thermostats and they have all worked well. This is a pro model, so set up is more complex, and unfortunately the manual is not very useful at guiding you through many of the set up options (pro’s are just supposed to know I guess), and nothing on Honeywell’s website, again it is for pro’s. I installed one on a system that includes a heat pump and gas back up, the only issue was the reversing valve option, I took the default and it was wring, so on heat I got AC, easy enough to change in programming. The next day I installed the other one on another floor of the house. When powered up the screen was blank other than the backlight. As a test I swapped it with the working unit and had the same result, the defective display remained defective even when plugged into the working base. The Amazon warranty is 30 days, and I’m passed that, so no recourse there. It has a 5 year warranty from Honeywell when professionally installed. I called Honeywell and they said, nicely, “not covered it’s a pro unit”. They offered me a 20% discount code for purchase on their site.Bottom line, I knew this was a pro unit and my own fault for not installing within the 30 day window, but if it fails 31 days after purchase, you are on your own.Other than that, it’s a good thermostat with one strange glitch, the outside air temp sensor reading is now inaccurate, while on the old stat is was accurate, it reads between 5 and 10 degrees lower than actual. I’m assuming it’s an incompatibility between stat and senor, as the system is not a Honeywell. That temp sensor drives some of the function such as the switch over to back up heat, so it is critical. After an email exchange and a call with Honeywell, they eventually agreed to replace the defective unit with the non-pro version, the “color” model, which I accepted. Have not yet received it, will follow up when I do.

The install was relatively simple (I’m not an electrician). Once I set up the parameters it has worked flawlessly now for months. It has alway reset itself after power outages (not like our microwave)The app to control this thermostat remotely is very friendly to use and free. I never once had it not work. Remote access (you will need wifi at location of thermostat to control) was the biggest reason I purchased such an expensive name brand thermostat. So glad I spent the extra money. We use this in our cabin so we can have it up to temperature when we arrive rather than having it take about a day to warm up with us in.No regrets with this thermostat.

This is a great thermostat, one of the only ones that offers both remote access and humidity control. Only issue is I’m on by third one in 5 years. Which makes it a bit on the expensive side.
