Great reliable disks (MDD)
this is my 6st disk from MDD, different seller. I got the 10, 12tb and several 16tb. Never had an issue. Running them in a synology with cameras writing all day and night and heavy copy on share folders.The oldest is 3 years old now.The only thing with this particular model is that the other disks were Seagate, and this one was a Toshiba. But still specs and performance is the same.I only had issues with the 22tb drives on synology external disk case, that wont recognize them, but if you install them in the main unit they will work. Synology said that is probably a firmware issue at the case but they dont provide support for not “certified” disks :/ (they are pushing you to buy the synology disks, which are 3 times the price of any disk.)

Horrible experience-International Buyers BEWARE!-No warranty support outside of US borders.
First off, the international warranty support missing completely notwithstanding, I ordered 7 MDD16TSATA25672E – 16TB drives (essentially rebadged Seagate IronWolf Pro 16TB NAS Hard Drive 7200 RPM 256MB Cache CMR SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal HDD NE-ST16000NE000 drives). Ugh, Seagate, but okay, they are enterprise renewed drives, how bad can they be. Well, really bad. Of the 7 that arrived, 3 were dead out of the box, all would power on, but 1 would make a locked read head noise (not good) and the other two wouldnt even be recognized by the storage controller of not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 separate servers, NAS, and even external USB controller for verification the drives were failed. Looked fine and good externally, though MD Tech places a sticker over the original OEM sticker (which looks like it may have been removed as well), and hides any power on time by scrubbing the firmware reset back to 0, manufacture date, etc. To obfuscate this much information from the purchaser is in my opinion a bit shady. I know these are renewed drives by definition, but what is the harm in knowing the life of the drive so far.Second, let’s talk about the drives that “worked”. Considering nearly 50% of the drives I received didnt work at all, I was at least hoping the remaining 4 would be usable. Well, that didnt work out so well. The drive temps were all nominal, noise levels (though louder than my WD helium drives) were okay. Created a LUN from the 4 drives, worked for a test 4TB file copy. Then started performing Bad Sector tests overnight. Not good, 2 of the drives failed to complete the tests and drops the LUN (RAID5) pool entirely faulting the storage group. Deleting the pool (as the only option it was so corrupt), and restarting the scans also dropped 2 of the same drives again failing to complete, and the remaining two are running, but creating a simple RAID1 pool from the last two drives and leaving to run overnight faulted the drives again after running an integrity check on the completed RAID1 group. Which the drives didnt fault, but data was not going to be consistent. Wow, so these drives are not going to be able to run in any sort of RAID group from what I have at all.Lastly, well, let’s talk about support itself. Emailed MD Tech, which they responded quick enough despite the time difference between countries, but their answers were a little less than helpful. When I explained what happened a bit and discussed with them the problem, they responded with:”According to the system, your order was an international fulfillment directly by Amazon FBA (we only ship within USA). Please kindly open a return request through Amazon. Amazon will respond to you accordingly. Many thanks for understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”But now I am thinking, wait, I am only having the option to consider a return because I am within the return window, outside of that, what would be my option so I inquire as warranty support outside US borders and their response was:”Unfortunately, we only ship within USA. All international orders are going through Amazon FBA fulfillment. Most likely Amazon only offer refund option for the defective item. Can you please try to visit the Replace a Damaged, Defective, or Broken Item page and try to request a replacement through the system?”Hmmm, fair enough I am out of luck and they arent going to replace the drives with like for like (at this time only knew 3 were DOA). But then I was like, I need to inform them they should update their listing to notify international buyers of the limitations of their 5 year warranty claim in the title. Surely they would want to make sure buyers dont fall prey to this. Their response:”Many thanks for your kind understanding. We apologized for any inconvenience caused.”So, no mention that any change will take place after knowing now that they are misleading international buyers of the warranty claims which would likely find out too late to get any support on a failed drive. Horrible practice and BUYER BEWARE!!!Having said all that, after learning that 7 out of 7 drives wouldnt participate in a simple RAID1 or RAID5 storage volume at all, I would highly recommend steering way clear of these drives and potentially MD Tech as a whole since they dont offer enough information to make a good buying decision. Seem oblivious that Amazon is an international seller. And when informed their listings might be misleading of warranty claims, don’t seem to do anything about it.I saw a review with mention of the higher than normal DOA rate, and chose to feel that might be an isolated incident, but after reading some more reviews and my experience, I can definitely say these are a “skip”. You’ve been warned.

It arrived on time. I checked it on crystal reports, and it was barely used. I was going to use the slow format, but it was too long. 15hrs. So I used quick format, then wipe the drive with zeros just in case it still had stuff on it. That all went ok except for the noise. –> I started to add data from another drive and the drive started making the noise as the data transferred. You know that sound, like ants crawling on the drive. This gave me cause for worry because it could mean the plates are out of alignment or loose. I was afraid it would fail, and the data could not be replaced. I have another drive by the same company, but it does not make a sound. So now I am backing up that data, just in case of failure.What are the renewal standards for hard drives? You need to spell it out on the site. Could they not hear it making noise? It has a 5-year warranty for another one just in case. But you lost 2 points because the drive is noisy
