Work Well If Installed Correctly – Lots of Wrong Information in DescriptionThese Normally Closed Recessed Window Door Contact Sensors are as good a quality as I have ever used. You can buy them a lot cheaper is higher count bulk packages. The website description is shamefully incorrect about whether these sensor switches are Normally Closed or Normally Open. In the installed position the switch is called a Normally Closed switch. When installed correctly, the magnet only portion is installed in the moving door or window sash. Then, the reed switch portion is installed in a fixed, never moving, position. When the door, or window, is CLOSED the reed switch portion and the magnet portion are positioned to precisely and closely be almost touching. When the two parts are together, the magnet pulls the reed switch CLOSED to complete the loop circuit. When the two parts are moved apart, the magnet lets go of the reed switch and the reed switch OPENS to break the circuit. There are NO installation instructions, current rating, voltage rating, hole size etc.. I took off one Star Rating point for the lack of documentation. There wasn’t even a web link provided to obtain this critically needed information. The switch will not work correctly if the gap between the two parts is too wide. The switch will not be reliable if the installation hole is too large because the two parts will move around. You must drill the exact size hole needed for the parts to fit into and stay in a rigid fixed non-moving position. Different manufacturers of this type of alarm sensor switch fit into different sized holes.
