Possibly defective? (OMG this thing is the worst)
No matter what I do, I cannot get this to complete z-wave interview step in home assistant. I’ve added this thing, removed it, factory reset it and re-added it at least five times. At no point will the interview step complete. I’ve never had any major issues with HA and z-wave except for a $13 motion detector. For the price, this thing ought to work properly, so I’m guessing I got a dud? I added a z-wave water sensor (got the siren for this reason) and it dropped in without issue. Took just a few seconds and it was ready to roll. The siren itself did go off a few times for unknown reasons (what a delight that it was at my desk) so it’s loud-ish, but you’d never hear this from the outside of a house. It is loud enough that it would wake you up through a closed door, so I suppose that’s all I want. The light is kind of pointless. It’s about as bright as a mobile phone flash. Also if someone broke in, now they know EXACTLY where the noise is coming from so they can smash it. Plan was to use it to augment smoke/CO and water alarms. I will probably send this back and try another, but if that won’t pair, I guess there is something else going on.Also, mailing this back is going to drive everyone who comes into contact with it freaking bonkers. If you move it, it alarms. Since it has a battery, it is going to keep making noise at every step along the way of delivery back to wherever it came from (presumably hell). My sincere apologies to everyone who has to bring this stupid thing back.

Overall Good – But Can Lock Up
Overall this is a nice speaker/siren with a lot of options and configurations – especially with Home Assistant. I have purchased a few of these – from Amazon and elsewhere. The Negatives and My Recommendations:Wherever you place it, I highly recommend plugging it in – as it is designed to only run on battery while the power is out. Fortunately here, the cord is decent…but it could be longer. My other complaint on power is the barrel connector plug (note the first photo I provide) does not easily work to be fed through the wall (no matter where the hole is placed behind the speaker). As the supplied voltage is only 5vDC and 2mAmp, the manufacturer could have easily used a mini USB cord for this – such as a flat USB cord similar to the one on the Ring keypad. Or, with the barrel connector, they could have supplied one with an easer angle or flat layout to use or put the DC adapter in a different location on the back. A small problem, but someone who is handy with a soldering iron and electronics, I will likely tackle this at some point to “make it better”.The other gripe is, similar to what others mention in their feedback, the speaker “locks up” (for lack of a better term). Think of this “crash” like a Windows blue screen (only not as catastrophic?). The speaker/siren just becomes unresponsive and the home automation system reports it as dead. Since there is no actual power disconnect (it has a battery which is hardwired in), one essentially just needs to let the battery die completely – which could take much more than 4 hours (mine was still fully charged after 12hrs) – or (if handy with a soldering iron) disconnect one of the leads (voiding the warranty of course). For me, this wasn’t hard (see the 3rd picture) as I did have mine lock up and decided to just take matters into my own hands and simply “reset” the device by disconnecting the positive lead for about 10 seconds. It started working about 10 seconds after reconnecting it (protip: wear earplugs or noise cancelling earbuds as the vibration of working with it will set it off once you reattach power). It would be nice if the manufacturer used a JST Connector on the battery – They do come with this by default (note the link below). My 3rd gripe… is security. If the siren is sounding and someone pulls it off the wall and presses the button on the back, this stops the siren from sounding. At least use a pinhole button or put the button inside (behind the screws) and provide instructions forMy 4th gripe….make the battery replaceable. When ordering LIPO batteries, manufacturers order these by the crate. I personally can order these online by the hundreds…and they all come with a JST connector. It would be nice if the manufacturer used a JST connector on the mainboard (vs. soldering it on) to make swapping it out easier.https://www.amazon.com/battery-Rechargeable-Lithium-Polymer-Connector/dp/B07BTTVX4QOn the positive:With Home Assistant, together they support Over-The-Air (OTA) updates of the firmware. The latest firmware may be automatically be detected by HomeAssistant – if not, below is the link to firmware updates and instructions.https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000252066-how-to-update-siren-6I'd probably give it a 3.5 for the hardware and software defects, as it is easy to work on and only finicky once in awhile (for now), I decided to round down to 3 because it mostly works and has some really nice home automation functions but the negatives I noted above overshadow it’s benefits.Home Automations:1. Doorbell – I’ve seen other folks online use this as a doorbell. Tied with the Aeotec buttons (which you can link 3 buttons directly to this speaker without home automation), it provides even more functionality.NOTE: If you have up to 3 Aeotec buttons connected, the Speaker/Siren will also report the battery levels of the remote buttons – but you may need to manually activate these sensors in your home automation solution (they are deactivated by default in Home Assistant but are easy activated).2. Siren – I use it as a siren attached to my Home Assistant system (with my Ring keypad also attached to Home Assistant using the Alarmo plugin).3. Chime – I also use it – again with Home Assistant and some Window/Door sensors to be a “door chime” – so whenever any of my Windows or Doors are open it chimes (a specific chime). In addition to that, I also have it chime (a separate chime) and send a push notification to my phones when my gates are opened or closed.4. Alarm – Additionally, I use this (again with Home Assistant) as a Smoke/CO/Water (flood) alarm…in combination with the other tones (there are a total of 8 tones). In my case, Home Assistant also pings my phones when those happen too.I did see somewhere in this page about motion sensors – this speaker/siren does not have that as far as I can tell (if it does, Home Assistant doesn’t show it).If Aeotec fixed the crashing completely, that would absolutely make it an easy 4-star or even 4.5-star in my book. If they also fixed the plug for better “mounting”, that would probably make it a 5 in my book.My only other asks:1. Make it a bit easier (programmatically) to upload new sounds.2. If the manufacturer doesn’t switch to using a JST connector for the batter, then allow for fully reset/disconnect power with a switch INSIDE (not on the back as a burglar could just pull it off the wall).

It does work but always room for improvement.
So def a bit on the pricey side but overall does work for my needs…i hooked it up to a homeassistant system to be usesd as part of my security alarm. Using my zwave controller that process was ok didn’t seem like it worked at first but then i saw the device listed…a decent amount of tones available and with some extra parts it could also be a door bell. Alarm loudness could prob be kicked up notch but not horrible. I would say the thing that bothers me the most is i feel the power cord is a bit short for my liking.

    Great product
The home I live in currently has a pool, lake, and wilderness all around it, and so I needed a device that would alert us if one of the doors leading to the garage / ouside was open, due to us having a clever toddler, and a 7 year old.I read that the Aeotec Siren was one of the loudest smart home sirens out there, and so I decided to get it, despite it being a bit more expensive than the other options.Setting it up was fairly easy, albeit lengthy process due to it being my first Home Assistant device. However, it certainly lives up to it’s job. It comes with a multitude of alarms, each with its own loudness, and you can choose which one does what. We have it chirp if a door is open for longer than 15 seconds, and have the loudest alarm go off when we are asleep.Furthermore, it has a tamper alarm, which is quite neat to have.Overall an amazing product, that I highly recommend to anyone who needs it.

Does not pair with samsung smartthings even with the recommended device handler, and their website will not even allow you to log a ticket.

I wanted this siren to work but unfortunately it died on me within 10 minutes. I managed to have it paired and hooked up to my SmartThings hub, using Kevin LaFramboise’s custom device handler. The siren worked well at first … I was playing around trying to find which siren sound I wanted for the siren, playing each sound one after the other, which is a pretty cool feature, but unfortunately, after playing about 10-12 sounds, the light on the siren stayed ON and wouldn’t turn OFF anymore and the siren would no longer respond. I tried the procedure to have the siren removed from the z-wave network, no dice. I also tried the procedure to factory reset the siren, no luck there either. Looks like this device, although very rich in feature is poorly implemented and doesn’t last the test of time (about 10 minutes of use) … I will unfortunately be returning it and buying another siren with less features but which at least works … Giving it 2 starts because of its features which are cool, but what’s the use for the features if the siren isn’t robust enough and doesn’t work … Too bad!

Great little multi gadget. It can be set up as a siren or used a chime that can be used by any of your smart devices. I bought this to signal my that my laundry is compete as it’s far down in the basement. It works great but that’s not without effort. The instructions are making but after a reset of the device I was able to get it connected to my Smartthings hub. It’s true that only 8 times show at once in the device but those 8 can be setup from the huge list of tones. To do this, you need to click the device and hit the 3 dots in the right hand corner. Then go to settings. This is where you adjust the volume and pick the sound for up to 8 tones that will act as favourites. Select “component name” to set your tone 1 through 8. They have wonky names so here’s that translation:Browse – Main – also the main/parent sound control of Siren 6Tamper – Sound2 – known as sound 2 in the list of controllable devices, this controls thesound/volume played when the vibration sensor or tamper sensor is triggered (when you move the Siren 6 too often).Button one – Sound3 – determines the sound/volume of button one when pressed, or when Sound 3 is controlled from SmartThings.Button two – Sound4 – determines the sound/volume of button two when pressed, or when Sound 4 is controlled from SmartThings.Button three – Sound5 – determines the sound/volume of button three when pressed, or when Sound 5 is controlled from SmartThings.Environment – Sound6 – determines the sound/volume when Siren 6 receives a environment type z-wave alarm command. (ie. smoke sensors, CO2 sensors, etc)Security – Sound7 – determines the sound/volume when Siren 6 receives a security type z-wave alarm (ie. motion sensors, door sensors, etc)Emergency – Sound8 – determines the sound/volume when Siren 6 receives an emergency type z-wave alarm.Having these instructions is EVERYTHING. Works great with smartthings, give it a try.

PROS: Siren AND doorbell feature is really innovative. Customizable and feature packed with tamper protection and battery backup.CONS: Poor installation process. Encountered weird bugs that affected volume and rendered it uselessThis is a product I dreamt of that only recently did I discover actually existed.Having a siren is great for home security, but it feels a bit of a waste to spend a lot of money for a product that will hang on the wall and do nothing 90% of the time. There’s actually another multi-use product that combines a smoke alarm with a security system alarm which I thought was incredibly great! Too bad it’s hard to find and only in the UK.Anyways, this gave me good hopes, but for some reason I had difficulties pairing it with SmartThings. It just wasn’t easy and I had to reset it many times.Once I did get it, I tested it with my smart button and I actually could get it working as a makeshift doorbell along with automations as a security siren. My biggest issue is the configuration in SmartThings is really not user friendly. There are toggles that just aren’t easy to understand with weird naming and I still have no idea what they do. Upon tinkering somehow the volume turned all the way down, and I can’t get it back up to normal sound levels. It’s so low I can barely hear it rendering it useless! I will probably have to reset it again and go back to the drawing board.Overall, it’s a great concept and would probably do a lot of great things when configured to perfection, but unfortunately this “smart device” falls hard and comes with the same problems that come with a smart home, and that is the infinite time it takes to tinker, configure, troubleshoot and maintain. This product will be for you if that’s something you’re content to deal with.
