Aqara Sensors
[Native Matter Support over Thread] The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 seamlessly integrates with Matter, ensuring broad compatibility with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa. Built on the Thread protocol, it delivers fast, reliable, and low-power performance. With Amazon’s Frustration-Free Setup (FFS), it quickly connects to your home network via Echo devices. (**Note: 2-in-1 Matter Controller & Thread Border Router is required and sold separately)
[2-in-1 Sensor] The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 combines a PIR motion sensor with a separate light sensor, enabling smart automations like adjusting lights or curtains based on motion or brightness. Unlike the P1, the light sensor in P2 can function independently. It supports Matter for wider compatibility. (*Note: Alexa does NOT support light sensor functionality.) For a stable connection, ensure the motion and light Sensor P2 between the hub is no more than 6 meters(19 feet).
[Wide Viewing Angle & Detection Range] The P2 sensor can detect movement across a wider area range of up to 7 meters/23 feet, at an angle of up to 170° horizontally, and 45° vertically. The data is from laboratory testing, conducted in a 25 °C / 77 °F environment. It also comes with a versatile 360° stand, that allows you to easily adjust the viewing angle, and it can only trigger the sensor when it’s needed. The detection angle and the sensitivity may vary depending on the ambient temperature and the distance. The device comes with medium sensitivity by default, but you can set the various sensitivity levels on the Aqara Home APP later according to seasonal changes or needs.
[Energy Saving & Alert System] You can integrate the Motion and Light Sensor P2 with your smart home ecosystem to enable advanced automations and energy efficiency. Imagine how fun it can be! You’ll be able to schedule different automations based on the brightness in the room to achieve circadian lighting and ambient control. Moreover, the automations are executed without the cloud, which can protect the user’s privacy and will keep working even if there is no internet connection.
[Easy to Install & Long Battery Life] Thanks to its compact wireless design and adjustable stand, the Sensor P2 can easily be installed on a wall, ceiling or a particular zone, and set up with ease. The Motion Detector and Light Sensor P2 has a powerful 2*CR2450 Lithium battery and provides up to 2 years of power for round-the-clock security, one of the longest battery life among Matter over Thread sensors. For best performance, keep a clear distance of 1.5 to 2 meters from infrared devices.
Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 requires a Matter Controller & Thread Border Router (2-in-1). Compatible hubs tested: Apple: HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod Mini, Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi + Ethernet (2022), Apple TV 4K (2021) | Samsung: Hub v3, Station, Hub Dongle, Aeotec Smart Home Hub | Amazon: Echo Show 8 (3rd gen), Echo (4th gen), Echo Hub, Echo Show 10 (3rd gen), Echo Studio (1st & 2nd gen), Eero Max 7, Pro 6E, Pro 6, 6 Plus, 6, PoE 6, PoE Gateway | Google: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wi-Fi Pro. Nice Matter/Thread Motion Sensor
Overall, this is a neat little motion sensor that runs by Matter over Thread. It is exposed to various platforms as “occupancy” rather than motion not due to failings on the sensors part, but rather as the current limitations of the developing Matter Standard. Also, exposed to various platforms is the light/illuminance sensor. All in all, it functions exactly as you would expect for a motion sensor to work. If there is motion, it gets triggered. Light levels only update as motion is triggered, not a constant update; I would imagine otherwise battery brain would be obscene.(Important to note is: You do need to have a functional thread network set up for this device to work, as that’s the communication protocol of the device)Visually, it’s a nice looking sensor. Small, solid feeling plastic casing, feels and looks niceTo pair, you can either scan the QR code provided on the booklet that’s enclosed, but if you lose that or your QR camera is not working, the booklet provides the numbers to input. ***As well as this the Matter Code is printed on the top of the sensor it is associated with.*** Nicely discrete but accessible, should the page of the booklet be misplaced. The batteries are 2 (two) CR2450 coin batteries. As this is a brand new sensor, battery life is still to be determined, but even so it’s not something I’m too worried about. Even the “lower” estimate of two years depending on usage is nothing to sneeze at. I’d be more concerned if it was only estimated to last a few months. The only thing I’m not too pleased with is the inability to adjust distance/level parameters of the sensor without the, at time of writing, unreleased Aqara M3 Hub

Unreliable and Disconnects Regularly
Regularly disconnects from thread and shows as unavailable in apple home. Not reliable. I bought three of these and they all suffer the same issue. Even tried completely rebuilding my thread network, which didn’t help. Aqara battery thread products don’t seem very reliable.

3 months of use with no issues
TL:DR Love this product. It’s small, easy to use, picks up motion and responds quickly. And 100% worth the money. Very happy with this purchase.I first want to mention that I use apple home with a HomePod mini as my hub. I set up the device on the home app without using the Aqara app at all. I got this motion detector for my bathroom hue lights. I wanted them to turn on at a very low brightness automatically when I walked in the bathroom and turn off when no motion is detected.I needed the lights to turn on and off automatically as a nightlight when I come and go but I did not want them to turn off when I am actually using them at full brightness (it was very annoying to have them turn off when I am getting ready and step out of the bathroom for a minute or two). The home app does not allow conditions to be used with their automations so I used an app called Home+ to set up this automation (which is the picture I uploaded). I set up the motion sensor to not input any command when the lights are set to anything besides off. Been using the motion sensor for 3 months and my setup works like a charm without any issues since instal. Apple home says battery is still at 100% (although I can’t guarantee accuracy). Would absolutely buy again.

Good Sensor- but not around some appliances
This sensor has really been wonderful for automating turning on lights when motion detected, or even notifying me when there is activity in certain parts of the home.My only caveat, is it is apparently sensitive to appliances since they give off heat signatures and vibrations. I tried to use it in a closet containing a refrigerator and I had many, and I mean many, false triggers. But I have on in my garage to turn on lights when I enter and it has worked flawlessly for months. I monitor them through Home Assistant and automations I created.A big plus for me is that it is Matter over Thread so you don’t need to clog up your wi-fi with yet another device.

Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 Review
The Motion Sensor is a compact powerhouse that excels in speed and simplicity. Its sleek design and quick setup make it a breeze to integrate into any smart home. I’ve mounted mine in a ceiling corner of the laundry room and paired it with HomeKit via Thread. The results are astonishing: the lights turn on in less than half a second after entering the room, thanks to a simple HomeKit automation. This level of responsiveness is truly impressive. The sensor accurately detects motion without being triggered by my pets, and the ability to remove unnecessary labels adds a clean, modern touch. While I appreciate the sensor’s current sensitivity, the lack of adjustable options within Apple HomeKit is a minor disappointment. Additionally, the absence of USB-C charging feels like a missed opportunity.Despite these small drawbacks, the Motion Sensor is an excellent choice for anyone seeking reliable and fast motion detection. Its performance in my laundry room has significantly improved convenience and energy efficiency. The sensor uses an easily replaceable coin cell battery, and while I can’t speak to battery life yet, the overall value for the price is impressive.

Excellent, rapid sensor. Connects with matter so no need to use a manufacturer app, straight into HomeKit. Replaced an Eve motion sensor which never worked this well. Battery life to be decided. It says up to 5 yrs. Battery easy to switch though.

I would reccomend these but also depends on what you’re using these for, I easily connected them to my aqara hub and haven’t had any issues with them disconnecting from my hub, and the battery life seems to be very long because they’ve been running for months without any issues. I also love the stick on feature it’s just like 3m tape you stick it to the wall easily and it works as intended. I designed it to turn on certain lights when motion is detected in a room, or to record a video when motion is detected in a certain area, making it great for security and they’re very small and look cool on the wall but also barely noticeable, if you have the hub and have other aqara accessories this pairs very well with them and the automations you can create are pretty cool, but if you don’t have the aqara brand products or hub I don’t know how well it works or if it would work at all.
