junk printer
While this Canon printer is difficult and non-intuitive to set up with no LCD screen, as a former programmer, I can figure anything out if it eventually ‘works’ but this was silly to get working. You have to scour over numerous Canon old help pages (current ones for this printer were unable to connect following exact directions) and decipher the various morse-code blue blinking lights on the printer to finally figure out how to set it up and then pair with your laptop. The manual and instructions don’t jibe with real life, as if those who designed it were asleep (or something else) and this thing didn’t connect wirelessly, you have to plug in a USB cable to finally get it to tether so it will finally recognize your wifi. Then finally after getting mine set up, it caused numerous clogs and wasted ink from weekly heavy cleanings. Why? because the pathetic printer design causes the ink to backflow back into the tanks when not in use, causing the print-heads to dry out and require ink-wasting flushing (likely to Canon a “design feature”). Even printing a test page every day did not prevent gravity from proving the product design to be a failure (for the customer). In my opinion, they did this on purpose hoping the customer would get so frustrated they’d buy another more expensive printer…well they were correct if that was their design process…I went back to Epson.Although this thing was a good scanner and gave me no issues there (I made more scans than prints in the ~one year I had it, the last straw was the printer just broke on it’s own and jammed, no force used, I just simply put paper in and it jammed the paper every time a print job was sent, I assume a piece of plastic broke off and jammed it, but had no more patience with this thing…into the trash bin. Even in 1998 this printer’s software would have been outdated (I used to code web pages and this now in 2022/23 ancient technology is nearly the same as then)..no clue as to why such a major printing company would still sell this low-class level of pure junk to the public at almost $300 with the otherwise smart claim to “save money on ink”. DO NOT BUY! (got Epson 2850 also ‘ecotank’ today, we’ll see..so far so good with nice prints, although adjustments will be required..I print my ‘good’ photo work on Epson 3880 and P800 and this seems to be good proofing printer on photo paper)

First tank printer ever.
this printer is amazing , its the first tank printer iv ever had . I don’t see myself buying any other kind. It wa simple to set up . connecting to wifi is so simple a small child could probably do it. The quality of the prints are very good.

Love it — when it works. Buy extra print heads to have on hand!
This is my favorite printer — when it works. I love the print quality, especially with photos. The speed is good. The ink tanks are wonderful. You can do a lot of printing before you have to refill them. The problem is that the print heads fail too often.Sometimes they just clog and can be cleared by Cleaning or Deep Cleaning, but even that has problems. The cleaning process shoots a lot of ink through the system, where it gets caught by sponges in the printer’s base. Eventually, the sponges fill up and, unless you want to pick them out piecemeal and try to replace them, you’ll need to replace the printer. Be careful moving it when you do! The ink WILL get all over. The better method, I’ve found, is to just keep some spare print heads on hand and replace them if a simple Cleaning doesn’t make them work again. It’s a more expensive option, but replacing the print heads is pretty easy and a lot less frustrating than going through multiple cleaning cycles that don’t work. The trick to replacing the ink cartridges (print heads) is that you first need to lift the ink tank covers, press/hold the STOP button for 8 seconds, and then press/hold it again for another 8 seconds. This will bring the print head into the center of its track where you can access it.My latest color print head lasted only about three months before I had to replace it again, so be forewarned.Despite that, yes, I would buy this printer again. I have, in fact, a couple of times. But now I expect it will last a long time, provided I can keep feeding it print cartridges.

Love this printer!
This Canon model is by far the very best printer I have owned so far. I am so glad to get rid of the money pit cartridge use printers. I printed color pages over 500 and barely a dent in the ink tanks. It is a little noisy but it is a minor thing. I recommend to anyone to use an eco tank printer. Refills are super cheap.
