Simple Solution for a Clean, Finished Look
I recently purchased the ecobee wall plate to go with my new thermostat, and I’m really glad I did. It made the installation process incredibly simple and saved me the hassle of patching or painting the wall. The plate is well-designed, fits perfectly, and effectively covers up the outline and screw holes left by the old thermostat.

Fits well, looks fine. Not much too it. A bit too expensive for a simple piece of plastic but it is what it is. Hole from cover plate locks with hole from the base plate. Screw it to the wall with the baseplate, insert your wires, snap on your thermostat and you’re done. When snapping on your thermostat, make sure both sides are even and you push straight. Don’t try to snap in one side and then the other.

Helpful item, only remember four screws total when properly installed, not two.
It worked as advertised and looks nice. However, keep in mind that the thermostat also has a back plate with two screw holes, so all four holes in this adapter will be used when properly installed (my electrician initially only used two, so the thermostat was flopping around).

I’d never heard of Ecobee before I was in the market to replace my old thermostat. I’m really glad I did. The instructions were super simple, making installation and use worry-free. The companion app works great too, and allows manual adjustments for every aspect of your heating and cooling needs. I was able to configure a normal schedule as well as an “away” or “vacation” schedule that I can toggle on if I need to leave the house for an extended period of time. It’s well crafted, especially for the price and the screen is large enough to see/read from across the room. I would certainly buy this again.

Drill holes for 2×4″ electrical box mounting
FYI this Ecobee wall plate WILL work if you have a 2×4 box in the wall, . There are 4 marks on the back side to drill for either horizontal or vertical mounting. Just remember to use the 2 white machine screws with nuts to attach the thermostat mount to the base plate.(you may need to shorten the 2 screws since they are a bit long and can interfere with the 2×4″ electrical box in the wall). Once mounted, you can then mount the thermostat. You will be able to slightly see the white mounting screws from the side. No big deal. I rated this base plate a 4 out 5 because I feel the base plate is too wide and the fact that you can partially see the screws after mounting the thermostat. Would I buy again ? YES Its’ the best option out there. I hope this review helps.

Does the job!
While I was less than impressed with the ecobee thermostat for other reasons (you can go see that review), this one is positive. Things lined up well, it covered the old holes, and visually it’s appealing to the eye. I can’t say I have any complaints with the unit or the fit and finish.

Was required for my new ecobee thermostat. Had a larger holes in the gyproc from the gen 2 Nest (Google) thermostat it was replacing. Google is not supporting Gen 1 and 2 after Oct 2025 so won’t need using anything Google ever again! This plate went on easily and looks great! Thermostat works far better than the best as well, much better temp control in the house especially with the air conditioner, we were constantly manually changing the best as the smart program was crap and it was either to got out too cold but never just right, ever, so glad they forced me to find this one!
