Solid Product. Matter the Way to Go for Smartthings and Hubitat
With a diverse ecosystem of 150+ devices built up over more than a decade, I find myself moving more and more toward Matter. They are so easy to include. This one also.With this footnote. Commissioned easily using Alexa. Then added it to Hubitat using the code Alexa provides. Went fine. Except, it was included in Hubitat as a device with no states – i.e., no way to turn it on or off.Run into this before so knew what to do. But, in case you don’t, I just had to go into the preferences for the device in Hubitat and change the Device Type (formerly aka device driver) to Generic Matter Outlet. Then On/Off options appeared and all was great.Oh, and the Matter pairing QR code on the box I first used to commission in Alexa did not work. Then noticed that QR code was slightly different from the QR code stuck to the plug. They should have matched. One on the plug worked fine, so I am guessing, somebody with a couple of these returned them, not getting them in the right boxes. Again no biggie once figured out.My ancient Jasco/GE Z-wave outdoor plugs have begun to fail over the last year, and I will definitely look to these Minoston plugs to replace them. The LeGrand Outdoor WiFi Matter plugs have also been rock solid as replacements. I initially tried Kasa outdoor plugs as replacements but have gotten rid of all of them: they proved quite flaky in Hubitat, requiring a special app in Hubitat that periodically required resetting.

Simple to set up and use with great WiFi reception
I installed this to control my outdoor fountain. I was tired of trying to dial in the old manual timer and guess whether I had the times approximately right. With this, it works perfectly. I can time the fountain to go off when the lights do and come on at a specific time in the morning. I can also use it as a remote control to turn off the fountain when the wind is high and it’s blowing all the water out of it. I read some reviews that indicated the WiFi reception is poor. That’s not been my experience. I connected it to WiFi inside the house before moving it to the outdoor receptacle. Pairing is simple by downloading the app, setting it in pairing mode by holding down the power button for 5 sec, then the app auto discovers the device. Enter your WiFi password and you’re set. I love this device. Really easy to use, the app is great (looks a lot like my SmartLife app) and entering timing programs is intuitive and fast. Two thumbs up!

Very grateful that Matter exists
Love these – likely buying more soon.Matter is the best protocol to buy, particularly if you want to keep your IoT communication within your local network. The advantage is more reliability , and lightning fast response when you control it. With a strong WiFi network, the activation response is as fast as using a physical switch, which is a breath of fresh air compared to vendor locked or cloud locked devices, that can take several hundred milliseconds , or even a couple seconds to register the command. But that doesn’t mean you CANT use Alexa and Google – you absolutely can. The point is you don’t HAVE to. I love manufacturers that are adopting this protocol. Bravo.

Works great with Alexa and Apple Homekit (if you can figure out how)
UPDATE: 12/07/2024 I stumbled across the trick to getting this plug to connect to Apple Home. The plug MUST be in pairing mode, which isn’t mentioned anywhere in the instructions or online. To put it into pairing mode, press and hold the ON/OFF switch until the light begins flashing. You can then scan the code from Apple Home and it will quickly and successfully add it. It’s a simple solution but was documented nowhere that I was able to find.—————————————————–The plug was quick and easy to set up with Amazon Alexa but I haven’t been able to add it to Apple Homekit. I ensured my phone was on 2.4Ghz wifi when trying to add, Homekit screen spins and spins but fails to add the plug. Big disappointment because Homekit compatibility was the reason I purchased it. I’ve read of many others who struggle to add Matter devices to Homekit so perhaps the problem isn’t limited to this plug. I searched Minoston’s website for but their online support resources for this Matter Plug are nearly nonexistent. I suppose I’ll carry on using the plug with Alexa rather than Homekit but it’s a disappointment.

BUYER BEWARE: randomly turns off, do not use for freezers or things where electricity is important!
Device suddenly stopped working as if I had hit the OFF button through my app on a random Sunday. Which meant that… I just found out that I had a freezer full of spoiled food I just had to throw out when I found it turned off, a week and a half later. So you know, if you need this for anything important? Do NOT use it. I just had to throw out an extreme amount of spoiled food, mostly meat which as we all know is EXPENSIVE.

Perfect for above ground pool owners
This has been a really excellent addition to the smart home. It integrated super easily via matter once you put it into pairing mode, and has been a life saver for turning on and off my above ground pool pump everyday. While it’s only been a few weeks at this point using it uncovered outside, we have had some very heavy rains and it’s been unphased. A great value product for sure.

Excellent Value – It Works Great With Alexa (dimming too!) and is rugged!
I was pleasantly surprised that this dimmer works so well with my house architecture. I use it to control a string of 50 LED Edison lightbulbs. It is mounted outside and has endured many hard rains without issue. The dimmer does a great job and is rated up to 400 Watts… far more than what I need. To make this work with Alexa, you have to initially use their app to set up the lights and associate the device with your WIFI network. Once that is done, you probably wont have to touch their app again… although it isnt bad. I put this on an Alexa schedule… On at 30 minutes after sunset and off at 11PM. No fails and I really like how easy it is. A good way to automate things that you would otherwise not be able to.
