Great router with easy setup!
Great router! I bought this a bit on the whim when I wanted a bit more range for my home and to avoid some dead spots and this one has been great. Pleasantly surprised by the app and how easy installation was. Covers the whole home (1400 sq ft. on main floor and 1300 sq ft in the basement) and looks good doing it. The value was pretty good and I’d expect to probably pay a little more for a tri-band 6E router, so it gets an A in my book!

WiFi 6E speed and great range but many router settings require an extra subscription fee
WiFi 6E works great! I can validate on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold that I’ve connected to WiFi 6 using the 6 Ghz frequency so that’s WiFi 6E.You can only setup the device through the MotoSync+ app but it was easy to do. The app will tell you to disconnect your existing WiFi router and reboot your internet modem. I didn’t have to do that. In fact, I was better off leaving the existing equipment running and just connecting this MQ20 as an additional WiFi router. Once I got everything setup and working, I then changed the WiFi SSID to match my existing router before disconnecting the old WiFi router.IoT network setup is very easy through the app. You can enable Network Isolation so the internet traffic for your IoT devices can’t see your primary network traffic – very nice and secure. If you have some cheaper off-brand “smart” devices, this feature is a great security best practice and easy to turn on for this MQ20 device. You can select a device type for each device that connects to the WiFi. Doing so will then let you turn on Intrusion Monitoring for some devices like printers, assistants (Google Home/Amazon Echo), or thermostats. You also have the option to quarantine the device if you’re trying to troubleshoot/fix the intrusion. You can also assign a user to a device but that requires a subscription to MotoSync+ Premium Protection. In fact, any of the other advertised advanced security features of this device (advanced firewall, malware blocking, ransomware protection, and phishing defense) requires the added cost of the subscription to MotoSync+ Premium. Even the parental controls like turning off internet access for a child’s device is only available through the Premium subscription. You can select up to 3 devices to prioritize on the router. I set my work laptop to be prioritized so I can ensure that my video conference calls are always routed before any streaming music or video traffic from other devices.None of these router options are documented anywhere. The paper manual just tells you to download the MotoSync+ app. The MotoSync+ app only has support options to create a support ticket or visit the FAQ website.2FA never sends the code to my phone number. I was forced to use email as 2FA instead. The product page description states “Plus, enjoy 1 year of Premium Services included for free.” All the app options that require the MotoSync+ Premium Protection upgrade require you to activate the service for a fee and there’s no way to redeem this free 1 year claim.I have decided to continue to use this router since it’s a great speed and range upgrade compared to my Nest WiFi 2-point mesh setup (WiFi 5). I don’t need to use all the advanced security features that require the extra cost of the MotoSync+ Premium subscription.

Fast WiFi for Gamers, Busy Families & Home Offices
I work from home, game online, and have a family that’s constantly streaming, scrolling, and using their phones and tablets—and this Motorola MQ20 has handled it all without breaking a sweat. Setup was super easy, the coverage is solid all over our house, and I haven’t had a single lag or drop since switching. The speed is seriously impressive. I can be on a video call while someone’s gaming and others are streaming movies in HD, and everything stays smooth. The parental controls are a nice bonus for keeping the kids’ screen time in check, and the app makes managing devices super simple. If you’re working remotely or have a busy household full of devices, this router is worth every penny. Fast, reliable, and easy to use—exactly what I needed!

Great router with super easy setup
Packaging was nice and everything arrived exactly as expected. Setup was quick, and the MotoSync+ app made the whole process really straightforward. I really like the built-in features in the app, especially the notifications when new devices connect. Speeds have been great, and the coverage around my home has been solid so far. Overall, a great purchase and I’m really happy with it.

Don’t buy
I have used this for several months now and I’m not pleased. The design is for basic users – the ability to do advanced settings is extremely limited. It offers a mobile phone app, but no desktop or web-based app. Additionally, if you want their security or most other features, you have to pay for it.The EULA gives them the right to steal your data for their own purposes. Finally, I got this one because it theoretically meets the specifications required for my 1GB connection. In reality, though, the download speed is usually much less – as bad as -50% – so it’s not working right or isn’t what it says it is.Given the price of this product, all the limitations and the paid services, this isn’t worth it. They’re robbing you of your money and data.

Powerful, Future-Ready, but Not Without Caveats
I upgraded to the Motorola MQ20 for its WiFi 6E and tri-band promise, and it mostly delivers. In my 2,000 ft² home, the 6 GHz band gives lightning speeds in the same room as the router, and the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands cover distant rooms decently. The 2.4 GHz band reaches both the back and front yard with lots of bars. Setup via the app was smooth, but then you find out that the router is kind of limited unless you pay for a subscription. Yeah you get the first year free, but if you plan on having this for longer, then you will have to pay up to continue to use the security features. Functionally, the router handled many simultaneous devices (phones, TVs, smart home) without choking or lag. However, the top advertised speeds (8.4 Gbps) feel more marketing than real life, my devices rarely exceed 800–900 Mbps even under good conditions with 1Gbps internet. Also, the 6 GHz signal struggles through some walls, so coverage in some rooms drops off faster than I hoped (with Google Pixel 9). Overall, it’s a solid, modern choice for a home trying to stay ahead of the curve—just temper expectations for range, real-world speed, long term features.

Terrific Upgrade
We are very pleased with the performance of this new router. We immediately noticed better coverage, with a much stronger, more stable signal throughout our home than we’ve ever had before. Set up was not difficult and all in all wel worth the price.
