Quite an Easy Matter
Quite pleased with the purchase. One of my first matter devices and it didn’t disappoint. Connectivity with HomeKit and Home assistant worked flawlessly. No intentions of going back to Wemo.

Third reality does it again!
Works incredibly well with Home Assistant! The power monitoring comes in handy in my use case I have it connected to my amp in my theater. If my media streamer is detected as turned off but the amp is still pulling power that means the power off signal did not get registered by the amp. I have an automation that will use that information from the plug to turn off the amp.Great connectivity, compatible, and a good value for the money.

Buggy Matter energy reporting. Energy (kWh) and Power (W) correct, but V & A very wrong
Actually supports Matter 1.4 energy reporting, but Voltage and current are garbage. They just jump between random unrealistic values. The power and energy seem reasonable though, and this is the most important measurement

Only partially works in Home Assistant
While the basic on/off function works in Home Assistant, none of the power monitoring works correctly. Product returned.

A listed well made switch… with software bugs
So the switch works fine within Apple Home via matter and within a minimal Matter only app from ThirdReality but not the main app. I also could not add it to Smart Life as it apparently is using an unsupported profile of some kind. I’ve added other Matter switches to Smart Life so it’s a Tuya specific thing.I’m not really sure what’s going on here with the compatibility issues and app issues but without proper bridging it’s hard to use this for automation across clouds. Matter lacks things like power metering so you can’t use these switches to dump excess solar or limit consumption. I.e. if you wanted to run 10kW of electric heat or turn the switch off if your device pulled more than 1kW as a load shedding mechanism. As a standalone device with the standalone app, it works fine. I use it to track consumption of my dehumidifier so I can balance how much power it is using vs just running my AC. I live in the Southern US where dehumidification matters. My dehumidifier has a humidistat but no timer or other Smart Control. In an ideal world I can juggle power use by turning it off entirely if my AC is just going to run for hours anyway and then save more power by using my 600W dehumidifier instead of 3800W of power by avoiding using my air conditioning system to drop humidity while also completely freezing me (referred to as Texas Sweater Weather). Running a 3.5 Ton AC in 75% humidity but 66 degree weather makes as much sense as adding humidity to the air by boiling a cauldron in your living room. But I digress. My previous smart plugs could do this automation but the maker got into a spat with Tuya and did not renew its license or was kicked out.Ultimately I’m going to have to setup Home Assistant and just bandaid over all these issues.

Worked perfectly through Alexa
Set up for this was very easy and it connected to our network quickly. All I did was plug it in, open the Amazon Alexa app, asked it to add a device, and it found it. Scanned the QR code on the SIDE of the Smart Plug (not the tiny QR code on the back….the big one on the side), and the Alexa app had it showing up in no time. I’m using it to automatically turn an aquarium light on and off at specific times of the day, which was very easy to do through Alexa. Based on the items product page I was thinking I might need some sort of special hub to use this, but the Amazon Echo was completely compatible and works perfectly. I can use the app to turn the light off and on manually if I want to, using the phone like a remote control. I did not need to download any other app, other than Alexa. This item was around twelve dollars when I ordered it, and too me it is worth every penny now that I don’t have to deal with turning the light off and on manually.

What would have been the best Matter over Wifi smart plug, ruined by poor connectivity
I use Matter to connect this thing to Home Assistant. It connects no problem, and I can turn the plug on and off no problem. The energy monitoring data also shows. This data updates really fast for a smart plug. In my testing is could detect a device being turned on in 3 to 4 seconds, and could detect a device being turned off in 4 to 5 seconds. This is the fastest I have every recorded, which is awesome for automations. Everything was great…Until I unplugged it for a second and plugged it back in to relocate it. After doing that, it straight up refused to reconnect. I tried and tried. Eventually I gave up and factory reset the device, and I even tried turning off my 5Ghz wifi when re-pairing just to be safe. After re-pairing it worked great again, but then I decided to test it again. So I unplugged it from the wall just for a second and plugged it back in. It again refused to reconnect after waiting and trying for quite a while for it to reconnect. This is unacceptable. Any time there is a quick power outage, or even a little brownout, this thing would give me headaches. It completely ruins an otherwise great products. Smart home products dont feel so smart when they are not reliable. If they fixed that one singular issue, this would easily be a 5-star product. But that one issue is just to critical, sadly
