    easy set-up
I set the printer up using a USB connection. Printer did not come with the USB cable but I already had one. I downloaded the printer driver from the Cannon web site. Printed a test page with no problems. Printed a spreadsheet in Excel and all worked well. I did not set up as wireless as all the negative reviews were wireless setup problems. If I need to print from my phone I can always froward. I originally purchased a Brother printer which I returned. It was a nightmare to set up and never worked correctly.

    Shame on Canon
Read the negative reviews – they’re 100% true.SizeThe picture and dimensions look like this is a nice, compact footprint. It doesn’t reveal that it has a paper drawer that remains open as long as you have paper in it. So, the footprint is actually the size of the paper you have in the drawer. And because the drawer is now always open, you’re suseptible to dust. So I load the paper every time I want to print and keep the printer closed.LCD ScreenThe screen is on the front instead of the top. I laid the device on it’s back with the edge off the end of the table for the power cord so I could look down onto the printer in order to read the LCD screen. I also opened the curtains and turned my lights on. Once setup, I laid it flat again. Still, you have to interact with this screen every time you print and for every firemware upgrade.ConnectionYes, the instructions suck and mine was actually missing the CD (empty case). I found the best luck was to connect the printer directly to my wi-fi and then locate the printer on my PC on the same network. My PC is directly hard-wired to my router, so not sure if that’s why my PC found the printer so easily. I didn’t want to connect the printer to my PC via USB since they’re more than 6 feet apart. I don’t use Apple products nor do I print from my Android.PrintingEvery single time you print something, the LCD prompts you to select a print drawer. There is only one print drawer. But, you have to scroll down and press okay on the LCD screen for the one and only print drawer before it will print. If there’s a firmware upgrade available, it won’t print and your job will remain in the queue until you upgrade.Firmware upgradesThis is more often than I’d prefer, about as often as your PC receives updates. I’ve had the printer two months and have had to update the firmware 3 times. This is done through the hard to see LCD screen by scrolling down to Upgrade, pressing OK, and then scrolling one button press at a time to read through the entire agreement (smh). 50-75 or so clicks later, you will be able to proceed.Print qualityI gotta say it prints shockingly fast – like 2 seconds. But that means the quality is going to match. Color docs don’t translate well, but they are crisp and lightning fast and dry. Toner seems to be priced well, so replacements shouldn’t be less than the old inkjet cartridges.NoiseSure, it’s noisy, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds cheap.Overall”Buy” if you have lots of patience and just want to print text docs at a lower price point. Otherwise, treat yourself and upgrade. I feel like these printers have been sitting around for decades. They’re only giving Canon a bad reputation.

Setup upper and lower case wifi password
Received this printer 2 days ago. Exactly as expected. A non-nonsense. Simple. Laser black&white only printer. Its all I need and want. Replaces a similar Brother where I gave up after endless issues with the toner replacement watchdog. One problem with the Canon was entering WIFI password with lower and upper case text. Finding the lower case option not intuitive. Not mentioned on documentation. Manufacturers website was a tedious, circular search. CD did not work. Download of printer drivers thru google search worked. Printer works. Setup less than easy! Operates flawlessly so far.

    Good AirPrint printer but…
I bought this printer to just use with my iPad wirelessly and it meets that need. I am replacing a HP printer whose ink replacement costs more than this printer! But:- only works on a 2.4 GHz router band, not the newer 5 GHz band. This was not a problem for me as I have a dual band router.- goes to sleep after each usage and will need to be awakened before it becomes available for wireless printing again. You can set up the sleep cycle from 1 to 60 minutes but you cannot keep it awake longer. My printer is in a separate room so I have it connected through a plug that I can turn it on/off remotely whenever I need to use it.- configuration panel is small and is poorly designed. Generally, you only need to use the configuration panel when you first install the printer, especially if you set it up to be used only wirelessly. But it is a slow and frustrating experience. For example, you will need to set up the date and time even though this information is available through your router !Update after having the printer for almost a month: I have added another star. I am very satisfied with the printer. It prints quickly on both sides, and it is economical. I have found most of the printers on the market work only on 2.4G WiFi and I have now found the printer does in fact wake up when an AirPrint job is sent to it after first use on an Apple device. So, 2 of my original criticisms or no longer valid. But the difficulty in using the small LED set up panel and the unfriendly process prevents me from giving a better rating. I do recommend buying the printer because of the price and how well it works with Apple devices.Update2: Have had the printer for about a year and noticed another shortcoming. Using a non Canon replacement ink cartridge makes it shut off its print capability randomly and you have to reset it using the midget control panel. The print quality from the generic cheaper ink cartridge is fine but it takes an extra effort to reset the print function. Back to 3 stars.

Nice printer. Had a little trouble getting it to get an IP from DHCP. Finally gave up and set ip up static. The printer is nice, good looking, not too bulky. Like the option to add more trays depending on the paper needs. One thing I think Canon could work on is that the LDC display is a little wobbly. It is not as firm at the touch as HP I’ve worked with.
