Absolutely Outstanding Book Scanner — Exceeded All Expectations
The CZUR ET MAX has been a game-changer for my workflow. The 38MP camera captures incredibly sharp images, and the flattening technology works beautifully even with thick books. Scanning is fast, accurate, and consistent, saving me hours compared to traditional flatbed scanners. The software is intuitive, the OCR is surprisingly precise, and the device handles everything from books to loose documents effortlessly. Build quality feels premium, and setup was simple. One small area for improvement: out of five notebooks I scanned, a couple of pages came out slightly tilted. It’s not a major issue, and I’m confident this can be addressed in future software updates. Everything else works flawlessly.Overall, the ET MAX is a professional-grade tool with outstanding value. If you work with books, archives, or documents regularly, this scanner is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.

Powerful software and affordable price
If you have frequent scanning needs, it is recommended to get this device because you only pay once, though it’s not cheap. By contrast, I have found many book-scanning solutions that require a fee for every scan, which makes the CZUR ET Max a more affordable option in the long run.The real magic kicks in after you snap a photo! The three laser lines and registration marks on the finger cots work together to align, straighten, and unwarp the final scan. These two hardware perks make the software way smarter at processing images—meaning fewer duds, fewer rescans, and way better OCR results.OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been around for decades. I’ve never used CZUR’s OCR engine before, but I’ve got tons of experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro’s OCR and have messed around with various open-source tools over the years. My expectations for OCR are pretty high these days, mostly because online OCR services have gotten so much better than they used to be.CZUR went with ABBYY’s OCR solution—they’ve been in the game since the 1980s. The ABBYY engine is multilingual, which let me accurately OCR texts packed with old Norse vocabulary and their phonetic characters. I picked English and every Germanic language I could think of, and the final output caught every UTF-8 character from the original text perfectly. That said, the feature isn’t perfect: I have a small Thai tarot book that the software can’t OCR.Overall, this OCR engine is more accurate than Adobe’s. I end up correcting way fewer words in the final result. The software also tries to preserve the original formatting when exporting to Word (it supports both DOCX and the old DOC format). That worked really well for me—indentations, font size differences, and inline formatting all stayed intact nicely.

Excellent Product
Update: I was somewhat disappointed about the zoom function. As it turns out, you don’t really need it. By using some of the software functions, you can get the pages at the level you wish. The support was very good to help me get to this point.I looked at several products. Having used the product to scan several textbooks of various sizes, I have to say this brand is probably your best bet. They have several products of various price ranges. I bought the ET16 Plus because of the auto scan function. It actually work better than described. After you turn the page, if the scanner detects motion, it seems to delay until there is no motion for a few seconds. This is really great when you have two pages that are stuck. So, I love the product and would highly recommend it if you have lots of books to scan.I have lots of textbooks that I must carry around when teaching. I bought this product because I wanted to make life easier when traveling. The product is well made. I was under the impression that it was a US product but it is a Chinese product. The software works very well. It is pretty easy to scan a 500 page book. The post processing takes a little time as can be expected with a searchable pdf file. It is easy to make corrections. Lots of intuitive features. It takes a while to get started if you are careful as I am. The startup documentations needs to be a bit more detailed. The videos are not that good as the lady speaks with a Chinese accent and very fast and low at times, so you have to listen very carefully. Good step by step documentation would be helpful. The user interface is not the same as what is seen in the video as the software is probably more current. But with a little trial and error, the startup productive time is fast.I just scanned my first book. I am not clear how I would insert a page if I missed one when turning the page.Support is from China. They did an auto response, giving 48 hrs because of a large volume of calls. Why would they have a large volume of support calls if the product is good and easy to use? I guess it is because they are in China and there is a time difference. Naturally, you can’t wait 48 hrs if you need a problem solved. So some US support is needed. So far I like the product. I think it works well with great correction features. With a little playing around I think it would be very fast to scan a book but not 7 minutes. It takes time to get things right and keep things going as the book does move a bit.The auto-scan feature is very valuable. It works well, detecting page movement. It is fast but movement can duplicate a scan. No problem because it is easy to delete duplicates.Very nice, Apple-like packaging.Tony

Excellent book scanner for teaching and research
I have been looking for a reasonably priced, high quality book scanner for some time. I’m a university professor and often have to scan sections of books for teaching and research. I’ve grown frustrated by the quality and difficulty of getting books scanned using multifunction printers, which is proving impractical, and started to use the university library scanner with better results. However, seeing the reviews and specifically the feature of flattening the pages was what I have been looking for (something the university scanners don’t have). Ordered this on Saturday and started scanning on Sunday. I was amazed at how easy it was to set up, get going, and then the quality of the scans. It’s a compact size that easily fits on my desk next to a printer.

It does the job. Although you have other options if you get creative such as your phone on a tripod and stuff like that, but this thing is dedicated for the job.
