Avoid this vendor. HDD dead in 13 months. Replacement DOA.
The first HDD I bought lasted 13 months before dying. One month past its warranty, so I am screwed, left holding a dead drive. Then I ordered a replacement. The packaging was crap, a single box with a single thin bubble wrap layer. It was DOA, had to return. I don’t think it is Seagate, I think it is this vendor. Avoid.

OUTSTANDING, RELIABLE DRIVES from a GREAT COMPANY!
I added three of these ST12000VN0008 12TB drives to my Synology NAS a few months ago and could not be happier.I purchased them through Server Parts Deal and they contacted me to make sure everything was perfect which it was – packaged excellently with plenty of protection (which is not always the case). The drives honestly could not be working better. They just keep humming along in my NAS providing constant data across my network. In fact, they are working so well I’m considering ordering more now from the same company. I believe in supporting companies that go the extra mile and this company is one that does.My experience with both the drives and Server Parts Deal has been nothing but excellent and I recommend them both 100%.

Defective 12tb prompty replaced
Had a problem with a new Seagate 12tb NAS drive that ran for 2-3 days is all — I’ve had ~ 10 Seagate Ironwolf drives and have never had a problem — some of the drives are still running after 8.4 years. I love these drives, but there was a problem with this one. I called Scott at ALL4COMPUTERS who took the time to discuss the problem and potential fixes, which didn’t work, so he promptly sent me a new one. I was Impressed with his customer service — thank you, Scott.

To work on macOS you must format it on a Windows machine first
I like the drive, but it hasn’t wowed me. It goes deep at 12TB (!) but it’s also very noisy when it reads. I returned the first drive because my operating system could only format it to 4TB, but when the next drive arrived and the same problem occurred I got lucky with tech support and the person at Seagate really took their time with me. The suggestion to put it in my Windows PC first didn’t seem like a great idea but I trusted him and it worked out great. I run it through a disk caddy with other drives and it works but it is loud and I don’t yet know to love it. I’m going to change my answer from 3 (meh) to 4 stars because of the tech support and because I have 12TB (!).

Avoid this manufacturer – No support
Original and replacement were dead on arrival. Amazon won’t let me return/refund them and Seagate’s website does not load support contact information (tried several browsers, devices and networks).

Go big or go broke! I think I went too big on this one and went to 8tb instead. I’ve taken this out of my nas setup as the other disks were 8tb and the extra 4tb space was wasted. Have used this in a separate enclosure. Powered. It seems to work well but does click. Not using it as a a primary disk at the moment just one in reserve. Seems to generate a lot of heat.
