Compatible with Amcrest DVR.
The hard drive on my home security system which includes an Amcrest DVR for my cameras died. I had purchased a WD purple, and it started showing errors within the first hour, so I decided to try Seagate, and I have not been disappointed. Plugged it in and my system has been error free ever since. Could not recommend any higher. If you are looking for a replacement HHD grab a seagate you will not be disappointed.

Perfect for the Ubiquit NVR system of your choice
I purchased two of these for use in a Ubiquiti Dreamstation Pro for security video recording. With three cameras, it states I have over 4 years of continuous recording at 30fps. That might be a bit excessive, but I do plan to double the number of cameras. Even 2 years is overkill, but you never know when you might need/want to go back and see what happened on a particular date. Needless to say, there is plenty of room to expand the number of cameras on the system without worrying about storage.

Must Read Before Returning Drive
I thought this dive was dead out of the box as it would not spin-up. Latest ssd specification assigns pin#3 on the power connector for spin control which was previously 3.3V. So if you install any new ssd on an older system it will never spin-up. The most common fix it to put tape over pin 3, or just cut the orange 3.3V wire to the power plug. I nearly returned the drive as dead when nothing was wrong with it. Now it is works perfectly. There should be an application note about this included in the box.

Directv HR54 internal HDD replacement.
Use to replace the 1TB drive that was in my Directv HR54 Genie DVR. Worked great. Fast and reliable. The Drive is optimized for video. It did make a huge difference and improvement. It was easy to install in the HR54. It’s so much faster than the 1TB that was in there.I’m glad I did. I was tired of running out of space.I used to use the Esata port but noticed some slowness issues when recording and trying to watch on a couple of TVs.I cloned my external 4tb on to this one and put it in the DVR. It was easy to open up the hr54. Not like the hr24. I’m glad I did. Runs great. No slowness or lag when scrolling down the list of recordings. Plus it boot up in 2 minutes instead of 5-6.Awesome.

Works great but don’t last very long.
Purchased to replace the old video 2TB HDD for a video 6TB HDD to gain more storage space on the NVR. Was easy to install and setup initially and all connections were easy to identify. Everything was working great as I had data from August 13, 2025, to October 4, 2025, but the new 6TB HDD only lasted 2 months and then would not read or write data. I tried to recover the data from the HDD but it will not even load when plugged into my PC.

Seagate hard drive is a go-to
Very happy with quality of Seagate products and feel their price point is reasonable. Storage capacity is exactly size I need and have yet to have any issues with compatibility.

Legit Seagate – Avoid WD Purple on Amazon!
After two failed fraudulent drives from the WD Purple line ordered from Amazon I finally found one that appears to be both legit and functioning. The first WD Purple I ordered showed 0 power on hours but clearly had been used previously. It was loud, clicked a lot and failed within two weeks. The replacement drive I ordered (That appeared to come from the “Western Digital Store”) showed up and wasn’t recognized by my system as a WD drive but rather an HGST drive…a model that was manufactured from 2014-2015. The drive had tool marks that had been painted over with black paint and the body also matched HGST drives from that era. You could even see sticker residue where something was removed and a WD Purple label was placed on it. The serial number was fake and also didn’t match what SMART reported. WD had no record of either serial. This drive formatted immediately, showed up in new manufacturer packaging and the serial number checks out on the Seagate website. I’ve used several purple drives in the past with good results but it seems like Amazon has an issue with the resellers on this site so I would 100% avoid buying the WD line on here for now and go with this seagate drive instead.

Smooth and spacious
This hard drive offers a lot of bang for your buck. Installation was simple and straightforward, and the amount of storage you get for the price is excellent. It runs fast—I’ve had no issues with performance, even when scrubbing through large video files, which can be demanding. For the most part, it’s been a smooth experience. I’ve found it to be reliable and relatively quiet in my setup. That said, I’ve seen some reviews mentioning noise or early failures, so I’m keeping an eye on it. So far, I haven’t experienced those issues myself. If you’re looking for a spacious and speedy drive without breaking the bank, this is a solid choice. Just be aware there may be some variability in long-term reliability.

I’m using these drives (4 TB size) with a Synology DS918+ NAS. They aren’t on the Synology list of tested drives, but I haven’t had any issues using them in the NAS for continuous recordings from Surveillance Station. The price for these was unbeatable!
