    I love my WD PR2100
I bought this product to replace my old WD LiveHub system. This is a great product. Extremely easy – just Plug and Play. This thing has been running for months with no technical issues whatsoever. I live in the U.S. but I can still access my files from anywhere around the world. It gives me complete control of my files without having to pay monthly subscription fees to any outside company. I own my files and this 16TB (8TB X 2) keeps my files multiplexed and backed up safely, securely and without any effort from my side.

Works very well! Web interface could use work…
So far so good! I use this primarily as a Plex server, and it does just that. I only have 2x 2TB WD Red drives installed setup as RAID 1.The web interface that WD wants you to use is just OK, and I feel it lacking in many features that would make it so much easier to use and navigate through. Uploading from my Mac through this interface has not worked at all. I am not sure if is my browser settings or what, but I used 3 different browsers, and the same result – unable to pull files from my Mac. However, when accessing directly from my Mac Finder, I had no issues transferring files over WiFi. I chalk this up to a learning experience, and now that I’ve found this, it works well for me.I haven’t tested this with simultaneous streams of transcoding, but the server is very fast and responsive when accessed over my Shield TV, Pixel phones away from home and Amazon Fire TV 4K dongle.

Money Well Spent (Although, Probably Overspent!).
Needing to replace an ad-hoc homemade network file server built around an old laptop, I looked at the lower end WD NAS units, and reading through the 1 & 2 Star ratings drove me to look at higher end units. Even the 1 @ 2 Star ratings for this PR2100 unit almost made me shop elsewhere. However, I threw caution to the wind and bought one, and, after ~3 weeks of use, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. Installation was a breeze; set-up was a breeze; use has been a breeze and it is fast, quiet, and so far robust. A new firmware update was just released (so, they are keeping it fresh) and installed without issues. Now, I not only have a RAID-1 networked file system and fully automatic back-up system for our PCs (restoring functionality lost with the old unit as Windows/software evolved through versions 7 to 10), but also our smartphone files have auto backup, and our smartphones have full access to the files on the NAS at home or away (given adequate network coverage). Also, with DLNA, our images and videos are simply deployed for viewing anywhere in the house. All of the historical files (not necessarily needed when mobile) have been moved from my primary laptop to the NAS, freeing up valuable space, but, given safe wifi access, they are still available remotely, if needed. Lastly, I now have a Linux box at home to remind me of my days using engineering desktops for work, which has made some aspect of administration of the system easy for me. An advantage over most, I suppose. It should also be said that the best knowledge regarding using WD My Cloud devices is gained via YouTube videos. Most of them are made in 2014-2016, and there have been software changes, but the basic info covered is still relevant at the time of writing this review in 2020.

Extremely Disappointed — Unreliable Product & Terrible Support
I rarely write reviews, but my experience with the Western Digital 8TB My Cloud Pro has been beyond frustrating and disappointing.• Never Functioned Properly: From the start, this device consistently sent power failure notifications, even when connected to reliable power sources. It never performed as expected and proved to be completely unreliable for secure file storage or access — which defeats the purpose of a NAS system.• Poor Customer Service Experience: I contacted Western Digital support multiple times over nearly two years. Each time, I was given the runaround — endless troubleshooting suggestions, repetitive questions, and no accountability. It was an exhausting and time-consuming process.• Warranty Replacement Denied: After finally convincing them to accept the unit for warranty inspection, I was told that internal damage to one of the rails disqualified it from coverage. On top of that, they refused service because it was purchased through a third-party seller on Amazon, claiming they could not verify the age or origin of the product — even though Amazon listed it as new at the time of purchase.• No Resolution or Replacement: Despite a clear history of malfunctions and my extensive attempts to resolve the issue through proper channels, I ended up with no working product and no support, all for a significant investment.Bottom line:If you’re considering buying this product — especially from a third-party seller on Amazon — beware. You may end up with a defective unit and no warranty protection whatsoever. Western Digital’s refusal to stand behind their product and their inability to verify purchases made through one of the largest online marketplaces is unacceptable for a company of this size and reputation.

Very compact size with medium noise level. I was disappointed with the documentation that was delivered with it. The user guide that you download from WD site is badly written and not useful for advanced users. The software that is delivered as apps are mostly not free and you need to purchase licenses for. I am using it for backup. There is backup software from WD that you can download for free to do this job. Unfortunately nothing with this product refers to WD software. As I said they have seriously to improve their support and documentation.

Setup was not straight forward under the old OS3 which I only used for about a week. Since the upgrade to OS5 WD has resolved many of the issues that you will read in reviews of this product. Running on my network with time machine back and as a plex server. Flawless performance.
