Do not trust NewEgg: before the purchase they guarantee the return, but after the purchase they invariably give that item as not eligible for the return. Scammers. The scanner allows good performance: it’s fast and fluid and good quality scan, especially as a document.

On/Off switch works sporadically.
I need a scanner for my job. The on/off button does not always work. I have to shut down or reboot my computer, unplug the scanner & after 3 or 4 minutes, fire up my computer & plug the scanner back in. And the button doesn’t even always work once of done that. So I do it all again & eventually the scanner will come back on. This is not a good scanner for me – I need one that is reliable.

A step back from previous visioneer products
I have been using various visionneer products since 1998. I have loved the design and the software that has come with the scanner. My last paperport scanner, the strobe 500 died after 3 years of use. Due to incompatibilities with windows X, I switched to the patriot P15 which seemed to be the most similar model. I would say overall it is similar to the my previous strobe. There are a few nuances with the software that i don’t like but nothing to really mark the product down for. I deducted 1 star in the fact that this scanner was $50 more than my previous strobe 500 and doesn’t offer anything in addition to that scanner in fact this one can’t be removed from the base so may have less features. I deducted another star for the overall cheep feel. The paper guides are now bifold plastic pieces that don’t stay open well and don’t slide well. Overall it feels less well made than the previous strobe 500 but costs more. Would I buy another when this one breaks down? Only if another company doesn’t build a sheet feed scanner with similar software.
