    Fantastic little NAS!
Fantastic little NAS! I set this up with 1x 500Gb NVMe for the system and 4x 2Tb NVMe for the TRaid disks. The startup was a little rocky, but I downloaded the App onto my phone and was able to install normally. Now it is up and running with an extra external 2 bay USB 3.2 Unit. Both 8Tb disks are in Raid 0 and working great. I wasn’t too pleased with the temperatures (43° – 45°, so I set the fan speed from automatic to Medium speed 1945 rpm, and now the temperature dropped to about 32° which is great for this system. The only thing I don’t like is the long waiting periods setting up TRaid on the system and Raid 0 on the USB disks. Other than that, it’s super quiet, responds quickly from the menus, data transfer to and from the unit is fast. and fits perfectly into my 10 Gb network. I am looking forward to purchasing another TerraMaster F8 unit.

Good product but needs improvement for Mac users
I was concerned when one Mac guy mentioned (error code -8062), but their website said that they support Mac, so I gave it a try. I also got this error code while copying files over from old NAS to this one. After some investigation, I found that I can select all files in the deepest directory (no more folders in that directory), and copy all files without problems. This behavior occurred for some directories but not all of them. Also realized it had nothing to do with folder name, as some folders with chinese characters worked but others didn’t. So my thought was that it might be due to invisible files. I turned on the configuration to show invisible files and behold, “Thumbs.db” was (one of) the culprit. Now 80%+ failure rate got reduced to maybe 50%, but still too high. Apple’s own search feature for Thumbs.db worked on network drives but was slow and seems to timeout after a while…I was perplexed for a while and one day, it dawned on me that I should do a “ls -a” on a failed folder to see if I might’ve missed something. Turns out Finder’s configuration to show invisible files did not show all invisible files, namely “.DS_Store” in this case. So I used “rm -f **/Thumbs.db” and “rm -f **/.DS_Store” on all directories of my old NAS. This fixed the problem and I was able to copy several terrabyte of files in hundreds of directories just fine.It seems that Time Machine backup worked, but I should test it more to be sure…..

    Compatible with TrueNAS
Works wonderfully with TrueNAS. Dropped 48Gb RAM in it to handle the ZFS cache and I get 10gb wire speed through my switch.Super quiet, super small, and super fast. Perfect for my needs

    Fantastic 10Gbps SOHO//portable NAS option
I’ve been using at home for mostly ProRes 4444 UHD files and it performs very well, allowing me to edit without lag. I get speeds close to the 10Gbps theoretical maximum. Getting cutting-edge drives isn’t necessary, the limit will be the network, not the SSDs.Over the first 90 days, I needed to power cycle one time when it dropped off the network. The web GUI is more than enough for what I need.In my opinion, the biggest perk is the exceptionally low power draw. This can be run on a very cheap UPS. It’s also quite small, it looks a lot like the classic WD My Book. It’s also pretty quiet, which is good because I’m sure a lot of SOHO users won’t want to upgrade their whole network to 10G.I’m sure this will be a popular way to manage very large files from cinema cameras on location and in studio. I’ll be recommending it for projects creating TBs of data daily.

Overall good SSD NAS with 10gbe
Got the NAS and inserted 4 drives I had already. Setting up the drives was fairly easy. Started using the drives then decided to add 4 more. Got 2 quickly and added them. Drive sync took just a few hours and didn’t overload the CPU even though it’s low powered. When I got the last 2 drives a day later the sync was about the same. Fans are well placed and the drive temps are steady at around 100f whether idle or under load. It comes with the proper heat sinks for M.2 drives that attach with rubber bands. Had 1 break but they have extras in the kit. This is the best SSD NAS I have seen with a good cooling setup and a decent price. It’s tiny and light so you could take it with you when traveling. Build is mostly plastic but sturdy enough that as long as you don’t drop it you should be fine. Software seems to be stable and mostly polished. The network UPS function forces you to use an IP address and will not allow a hostname like every other NAS on my rack. When clicking on certain options in the control panel it gives annoying pop ups and there are no keyboard shortcuts that I can find but once I set it up I haven’t needed to use the interface much so it’s not that bad for me. I have reached over 900MB/s with this pretty consistently and the latency is very low when moving small files.

A bit pricey, but a solid NAS
This NAS checked almost all the boxes for me. It is as simple to set up as any NAS can be. The construction is solid and not flimsy at all. When it comes to cooling, it has plenty of fan power and openness in the case, so I don’t see any issue with that. I am using the installed software and it works fine for me. I am getting advertised speeds over my ethernet connection. As far as usage, it is for archival use as well as a media server. I have Jellyfin running on it and zero complaints. I upgraded the RAM and honestly, I don’t think it made any difference to the speed or anything else, so it’s probably not worth it even though the RAM upgrade is inexpensive. I think the processor is the weak link in this NAS, but since it is doing everything advertised, there’s no real reason for them to use a more powerful CPU. I purchased it during Prime savings and I feel that price was a good price for the unit. I consider it overpriced at the regular price. I also think the “Plus” model is overkill for the average home user. Wait for a sale on this one and go for it and you will not be disappointed.

Using this for Plex and iSCSI, it’s fast with a 10G NIC. I can saturate the link with this NAS. Fast, quiet, lightweight and portable if you need it to be. Turn off DoS protection to save yourself headaches with ICMP and Proxmox.

I grabbed the standard F8 SSD using the $200-off coupon. Delivery was super quick and I set it up as soon as it arrived. As other have described, this unit is a beast and I am extremely happy with the purchase.I’ll be using the NAS primarily for backups and also for light-weight document storage and access for the whole family. Hence me settling for the non+ version. I was in two minds getting the non+ version but now that I’ve used it, I’m super happy.I bought a couple of 2TB Orico D10 NVMe SSD’s to try in this NAS. Although they are not listed in the official Terramaster compatibility list, I decided to give them a try anyway as I’ve used Orico products before and have always been happy with them. If they didn’t work then it wouldn’t be a waste as I can always use them somewhere else. The good news is that the F8 NAS accepted the Orico D10 and I was able to get it up and running with TOS 6 on it without any errors or issues. I configured it with TRAID, setup some file shares, copied files back and forth and all works great. No issues so far.I used the Orico supplied thermal strip along with the Terramaster supplied heatsinks. SSD temp’s run consistently in the low 40°C even under file copy load which is good. The supplied heatsinks are great.I’ll buy some more SSD’s to fill the slots over time. The unit is dead quiet and sits neatly tucked away on a shelf. My use case is not performance based so this little NAS is absolutely perfect for my needs. I just love it!
